I have spent time off line in the last week, just having some downtime after getting my assignment completed and restoring order to our home. Over the last six weeks we have had some work done in various rooms which required us to empty the contents of these rooms and place the contents in other rooms. I wish I could say we did some gorgeous interior work but it was boring practical stuff. Upstairs we removed one of the main windows and installed bifold windows. We removed the cupboards that were under the windows. For a week it was like navigating an obstalce course to reach our bedroom.
In the meantime;
I had a fun outing with Bev at Craft2.0. I bought a cool upcycled crate from Dustys & Lulu, some orange zip earrings from Zippitydoodah. A red chevron print cushion cover, some bunting and some fabric with a tea quote printed on it. After that Bev and I checked out the underground markets, and indulged with some more shopping in town.
I went on a date with Master Zach and saw Brave last Friday. He enjoyed the bus trip into town and it was so nice spending time with him. We agreed that if we were scared that we would squeeze the other persons hand. I got a few arm hugs, it was so cute. We loved the movie and our favourite characters were Merida’s little brothers. When we caught up with his mum and sister they bought me this cute treat that they had made, for a birthday party they were going too, it was so yummu and such a super cute idea. I want to have a go at making these next time I have a tea party.
My friends G and A welcomed thier daughter Ella-Rose into the world last Tuesday and I can’t wait to meet their latest addition to the family. she will be spoilt by her big brother and sister.
It’s my dads birthday today – he is 73 and it’s his last day of work. I know this will be bittersweet for him as I know he will miss working and may feel a little lost and wonder what to do with his days. I did assure him he could come here for a week and do some chores for me, he reminded me that my mum also had a list. He then had the cheek to say he would visit his sisters in Auckland and Dunedin, to have a holiday as they wont have a list of chores for him lol.
We have ten people (family) staying with us next weekend for Mikes Birthday, eeks just as well we have a big house and mains water pressure.
I have organised Mikes birthday cake. The awesome women who made my cupcakes for my birthday this year make cakes as well. We are going with an Iron Maiden themed birthday cake. The cake will be in the shape of a T-shirt. Mrs F, I know that will make you laugh given your nic name of MHM (metal head Mike). Mike and a friend attended the Iron Maiden concert in Christchurch a few years ago and he is a huge fan.
I realised Monday morning that this birthday party is Mike’s and not mine. While I may want to have a colour scheme/themed party and goodie bags. That isn’t Mike’s scene and while he is happy to indulge me for my birthday he doesn’t care about that stuff when it comes to his birthday. He does however want a chocolate themed dessert bar and to be surprised for his birthday cake. He also came up with an idea for a chocolate themed cocktail.
Last Thursday I went to an evening about “winter essential oils”, at Aromaflex – Wellington. It was a great night and I got to meet some lovely women and learn some more about essential oils, ideal for winter. I will do a post about this later in the week.
After the evening I took Mike to dinner at the Boulcott Bistro, for a just because meal. There was no special occasion, I just wanted to treat Mike and I saved up some of my pocket-money to take him out to dinner. The food and service were wonderful.
I am reading Sweetly by Jackson Pearce.
Tried a new recipe for dinner last night. Kumara and Carrot Slice wow this was great and so tasty. I would highly recommend this recipe. It makes a lot. They suggest that this is a lunch dish but we made it for dinner and it was filling when served with veggies.
I want to make some more shower fizzies and bath melts using some cute tea cup and teapot shaped molds.
What have you been up too in the last week?

I’m really excited to hear all about Mike’s birthday party, because it totally sounds like something I would like to do! Although perhaps without the Iron Maiden T-shirt cake
Good to hear that you enjoyed “Brave”. I want to see it but my boys weren’t terribly keen, I think because the main character is a girl! They are so silly. I pointed out that she is a tomboy and wants to be like all the boys, but they still weren’t sold. We did see Ice Age 4 on Sunday which they enjoyed. How cute that you had a little person hugging your arm throughout the movie
Gosh it’s all on at your house! Happy upcoming birthday to Mike, hope he over indulges in the chocolate, cos that’s what it’s there for! Love the little tea cup cake, looks too good to eat. Glad to hear you and Beverley had a fun day out shopping.
Definitely not as busy as you are. LOL. Happy birthday to Mike and loving the sound of the chocolate dessert bar. Yum.
Yay for chocolate overload – hope his sig drink is a hit:) I totally understand what you are saying about Mikes party not yours. Hope he loves it. Busy busy here too. We all loved the movie Brave.
Goodness, you’ve been a busy gal!
That sweet looked great, they would be perfect for christenings or a baby’s 1st birthday type thing for the adults.
Happy birthday, Mike!
I creeped your party ideas on Pinterest and they looked awesome. Fiance is the same as your husband – when it comes to themed parties for others he’s down with it, but when it comes to themed parties for him, he doesn’t like all the hassle. Sad face, because I like fussing over him.
Looking forward to your essential oils post!
